The Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church invites residents to a special presentation on “Seeking Clarity Amidst Confusion: Two Different Pastors -- Same Denomination,” on two different Sundays in November.
The Presbyterian Church USA has become notable as home to pastors with a wide divergence of responses to these questions.
The church is confronted by varied questions stemming from today’s pluralistic and secular culture, such as? “How should Christians view and utilize scripture, especially when it appears to be at odds with rational beliefs and cultural norms?,” “What is the message of Jesus in contemporary culture?,” “How should Christians relate to folks with other religious beliefs?”

Also, such questions as: What does the Bible say about human sexuality? About marriage? And are these “non-negotiables” to the Christian faith?
FHPC invites you to meet two of these pastors, as they address these and other topics critical to the life of the church.
The first session will be at 3 p.m. in their Fellowship Hall, at 13001 Fountain Hills Boulevard, Sunday, Nov. 1, by Reverend Al Gephart.
Gephart is a retired pastor of University Presbyterian Church and one of the regionally most notable proponents of Progressive Christianity.
He is chair of the Theological Dialogue Commission of the Arizona Faith Network.
Continuing the lecture series the following Sunday, Nov. 8, also at 3 p.m., Reverend Steve Beard, senior pastor of Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale, and a leading voice for traditional Christianity, will be the guest speaker.
His calling to ministry emerged during his undergraduate years at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington where he majored in speech communication with a minor in religious studies, while his seminary training was at Princeton Theological Seminary.
He serves on the Board of Directors of the Frank and Ira Groff Foundation as well as Love, Inc. He has been a frequent speaker for family retreats and Presbyterian youth conferences.
A “question and answer” will immediately follow each presentation. If you have any additional questions you can call the church office at 480-837-1763, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
