We read this with a great deal of personal interest and sense of pride because our grandson, Alec Heuermann of Rocklin, Cali., was also there competing in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. He was one of only three athletes from the state of California to be selected to compete. He was the only swimmer and, due to the same dedication, training and encouragement from family and coaches, came home with two silver medals.

Like Deborah, our daughter and son-in-law were there to cheer their son on. They too were so impressed with the Special Olympics Organization and what opportunities are afforded to the participants and families.

Our hearts are swelling with pride.
