A big thank you to Fountain Hills Times Editor Mike Scharnow for his right-on column in last week’s paper in which he delightfully spoofed those in our community who believe adding trails about town is somehow related to an off-the-wall United Nations’ plot; a spy story.

I wonder how many of those who worked on planning and implementing the new trail woke up in the morning, picked up the paper, and said “Wow, I never even heard of a UN paper written in 1992 entitled “Agenda 21!”

Well, they have now. Like it or not they are being accused of participating in a worldwide United Nations conspiracy because they dared to do something as simple as supporting a trail. This means I am also unknowingly participating in this Tweedle Dum Scheme because I agree with their decision. Talk about falling down the rabbit hole!

Returning to the real world and once again referring to last week’s paper, Bob Brown, representing Catholic Charities, eloquently pointed out that in these difficult times people need to stand up and help those of our fellow citizens who are less fortunate, hurting.

Pause for a moment and consider, on one hand we’re being asked to be concerned because some individuals feel there is a relationship between walking trails and a United Nations’ plot while on the other hand we’re being asked to address the very real needs of our neighbors who are hungry and lack shelter and other basic necessities.

What an interesting juxtaposition.

To one degree or another we all have to establish priorities. What should be done with our time, our resources -- what comes first? In this instance the choice is clear; one to be acted upon and the other to be shelved.
