During the initial stages of a renovation project at the Fountain Hills Community Center in 2021, it was discovered that water infiltration issues were causing significant damage to the facility. A major mitigation effort began almost immediately, and work is still ongoing.
At a Nov. 2 informal budget planning session, Public Works Director Justin Weldy gave the council a good news/bad news assessment of the progress so far. The good news is that nearly all the short-term repair efforts have proven to be successful and effective at stemming the problems. The bad news is the work still to be done includes some major projects that will likely prove expensive.
Weldy outlined what they propose to do next, providing the council with a heads up on what to expect when capital budget requests for the 2024/2025 fiscal year come in.
