The first module of a DVD course, “Living the Questions 2.0,” will be offered at The Fountains beginning at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 17, and continuing for seven weeks.

The Fountains, a Methodist Church, is located at 15300 N. Fountain Hills Blvd.

Fountains’ pastor Rev. David Felten and colleague, Rev. Jeff Procter-Murphy, created “Living the Questions” as a progressive alternative to the pat answers of the evangelical “Alpha Course.”

The DVD series is used by more than 6,000 churches around the world and has been published in book form by HarperOne.

Felten said the overall theme is “Invitation to Journey” and includes the topics of “Taking the Bible Seriously, Stories of Creation and the Lives of Jesus.”

Facilitated by Felten, the classes introduce participants to thinking about the Bible in the way that seminaries teach.

Questions explored include how taking the Bible seriously excludes a belief in the inerrancy of infallibility of scripture, how creationism is not compatible with the Bible, and how embracing the conflicting Gospel portrayals of Jesus actually enriched understanding of whom Jesus was and his relevance today.

Suggested tuition is $20. Contact the church office to register at 480-837-7627.

Many individuals have already completed the second and third modules, sessions 8-12 and 15-231, said Felten. The module circles back to the first flight of the program, sessions 1-7.

The topics for the upcoming sessions are:

*Oct. 17, An Invitation to Journey.

*Oct. 24, Taking the Bible Seriously.

*Oct. 31, Thinking Theologically.

*Nov. 7, Stories of Creation.

*Nov. 14, Lives of Jesus.

*Nov. 21, Thanksgiving break.

*Nov. 28, A Passion for Christ: Paul.

*Dec. 5, Out into the World: Challenges Facing Progressive Christians.

Childcare is available upon request. Call the office at 480-837-7627.
