Progressives

I often wonder whether progressives are able to apply reason or only emotion.

Reason requires knowledge, not just self-serving factoids. Progressives seem to be devoid of that. Emotion, not tempered by reality, is simply fantasy. Progressives seem to be good at that. If it feels good, it’s right, in their mind.

In a previous post, Mr. Schweers lamented that water boarding is torture while no known legal entity has defined it as torture. Using the UN definition, speaking harshly to someone can be deemed torture. The UN does not identify female genital mutilation as torture. Isn’t this emotion over reason?

Mr. Schweers suggests that corporations should pay more taxes, clearly not knowledgeable that corporations cannot pay taxes. He suggests that individuals who have actually earned their money should not spend it as they wish. Meanwhile, ignoring the fact that certain favored groups use taxpayer money to support what they wish.

Now he trots out the classic lamentation about individuals not being able to support a family from fast food wages. But, fast food wages were never intended to support a family. Again, emotion over reason. Does he have any knowledge of why individuals are even trying to support a family on fast food wages? Doubtful. There’s little emotion in that.

Like most progressives, he can’t tell us what the term progressive means. He notes that something must be more “fair,” but can’t tell us what that means. Being “fair” is an appeal to emotion.

I certainly accept that Mr. Schweers is a good progressive. His postings are long on factoids and emotion. They are short on knowledge. Sadly, this exemplifies too much of the country. Long on emotion. Short of reason. Can a great country endure when decisions are made on the irrationality of emotion?
