Project-based learning leads to elementary efficiency in Fountain Hills

This past school year, one McDowell Mountain Elementary School teacher got students into a type of learning known by its own acronym.

She explains that acronym, PBL, has nothing to do with the planetary boundary layer, protected bike lane or points, badges and leaderboards.

It’s project-based learning and it’s something Erin Hernandez embraced enthusiastically at MMES in the 2025-26 school year.
