Proposal to name Fountain Hills Community Center for Charlie Kirk

Vice Mayor Allen Skillicorn presents the idea

After failing to get a consensus of the Town Council to place the proposal on a future agenda for consideration, Vice Mayor Allen Skillicorn continues to make his case to name the Fountain Hills Community Center the Charlie Kirk Freedom Center on social media and letters to the editor.

Emotions ran high at the Sept. 16 council meeting in Fountain Hills as council members and residents made statements in tribute to Kirk, a political and religious activist who was assassinated at a Utah university Sept. 10.

Skillicorn asked during a portion of the meeting reserved for such requests that a resolution be placed on a future council agenda to rename the Fountain Hills Community Center for Kirk. By council policy, it requires three council members to agree to bring an item back on a future agenda. Only Councilmember Hannah Larrabee supported Skillicorn’s request.
