Public participation and trust have not been restored in Fountain Hills

OPINION — Our Town Council is a microcosm of what is happening in Trump's administration in many ways.

Over the last few months, after they encountered resistance and opposition to their decisions and conduct, their answer was to shut out the voices of the residents they serve. They then moved to restore the call to the public (our “toy” as Councilmember Larrabee calls it) with “guardrails.”

Those wishing to speak to agenda items or during the CTP, must now turn in their cards prior to the meeting. This new requirement, coupled with the council moving the call to the bottom of the agenda, makes it harder for members of the public to participate. It requires them to now sit through lengthy discussions of town business. This appears intentional.
