The pilot who caused the air tragedy in the Alps was a Lutheran (check your facts and not on conspiracy sites).

“He must be Muslim because they didn’t mention his religion” and “we ought to have non-Muslim flights” one man wrote.

Why?

What is that?

It is hate – pure and simple. It is also laziness – a lack of interest in basic fact-checking.

It is religious bigotry. It is a stream of harmful lies intended to label an entire religion with negativity.

Seriously, is this what you want to teach the children of our community? Hate, bigotry and lies?

I have found recent letters to be so venomous and full of bigotry I worry about our community.

There is a nasty underbelly here and it spills onto the editorial pages of The Fountain Hills Times every week.

The editorial page ought to be a place for an exchange of ideas – not a place to rant, lie and spew venom. We will never all agree but, be civil and be honest.

How about some more positive letters?

Lots to love in Fountain Hills: terrific restaurants, great schools, talented and bright kids, great golf, beautiful and accessible parks, swimming, hiking, exquisite scenery, and then...of course... there is Chocofin!

Lots to be thankful for and appreciate.

Get a life!
