P&Z recommends council reject monopole permit in Fountain Hills

Cell service provider seeks to expand capacity

The Fountain Hills Planning and Zoning Commission heard the clear message from citizens present at its Dec. 9 regular monthly meeting – they did not want a cell tower replaced with a taller alternative having an expanded antenna array.

The commission was considering a Special Use Permit to allow the applicant to replace a flagpole cell tower with a simulated palm tree arrangement 65 feet tall – 10 feet taller that the current flagpole.

The site is in a church parking lot at Fountain Hills Boulevard and Ironwood Drive. The current flagpole sits close to the building and the palm tower would use the same location.
