P&Z rejects theaters in C-1 zoning

The Planning and Zoning Commission will not recommend the Town Council amend the Zoning Ordinance to allow theaters as a permitted use in the C-1 zoning district.

The commission ultimately suggested that the council might consider rezoning some C-1 locations to C-2 along Shea Boulevard that could possibly accommodate a theater.

The Town Council initiated the proposal at the request of Councilman Cecil Yates. Yates cited the town General Plan as something that specifically cites theaters as a desirable business.

The commission believes there are too many concerns related to a theater in a district designed to be close to residential.
