Questionable

It’s election time and many candidates will be dishonestly promoting themselves. How’s that for politicians maintaining democracy?

I’ve concluded, as have many, there’s not a perfect candidate running. But, may I add, there aren’t many good ones running, either. Don’t you just long for some true facts to replace all the mud-slinging?

Election history indicates candidates are often not people of their word. There is such a staggering return of incumbents to office who say one thing and do another. If we are to believe the polls, morality and honesty are not requirements for office. Our political system seems so corrupted. So I’ve come up with a wish list of some items I’d like to see. Ever wonder who a particular candidate really is?

Which of the following do you like? A true patriot. Above reproach. Unselfish. Faithful to one spouse. Self-controlled. Not given to drunkenness. Not a lover of money. Able to teach. Honest. Advocate for the U.S. Constitution. Publically tested and vetted. What’s on your list?

Adlai Stevenson said: “The hardest thing about any campaign is how to win without proving that you are unworthy of winning.” Think that’s happening?

Comedian George Carlin joked: “Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.” The politicians in office today tells me that what Carlin said is no longer a joke. Did Carlin accidently describe a majority of voters? Remember, candidates aren’t elected without the assistance and cooperation of a majority of those voting.

I’ve now come to realize that the welfare of the United States is far too important to be left to the politicians.

Ever accepted candidates for which you had reasonable doubts? Ever felt your vote didn’t go where you wanted it to? Ever wondered if your vote is supporting democracy?
