As I opened the Nov. 1 edition of The Fountain Hills Times, I was greeted by Mayor Kavanagh’s announcement that she was not seeking re-election. After reading the article and learning that she was not seeking re-election due to her having achieved all her goals in her six years in office, it got me thinking.
If one of her goals was to have 40% retail vacancy in town; mission accomplished.
If neglecting the roads with little or no preventive maintenance; job well done.

If installing light around the fountain that makes Sky Harbor Airport envious; again, mission accomplished.
If wasting money on consultants for a lagoon study, street needs, how to attract businesses to Fountain Hills, etc.; well done.
Finally, Mayor Kavanagh took a victory lap for balancing the budget without raising taxes in the Nov. 1 article. What she neglected to add, is that she and Town Manager Grady Miller complain every other month about their need for more money, more money, more money! Why do we have both a mayor and a town manager?
I hope we do better with the next mayor, but I do not have high expectations as the needs of the town have not been met in a number of years; road maintenance, prioritizing use of town funds and a plan on development for the remaining town center. For a town so interested in attracting young professionals, why do we keep approving the construction of assisted living and/or nursing home structures?
