Soon our council will vote to eliminate their ethics complaint process. The ethics requirements are simple and minimal. Basic human courtesy, professionalism, good citizenship, treat people equally, represent all. Pretty simple things any real public servant would agree to.
But here, they want residents’ ability to file an official complaint against councilmembers eliminated. Instead of raising the bar higher in an attempt to increase public trust, our council will throw the bar on the ground.
By eliminating the complaint clause, I understand all sustained violations against current and past councilmembers will be erased. More importantly, any pending complaints will be tossed out. Everyone gets a fresh start.
