Recognizing the human cost of war

OPINION — I am writing to share some reflections on the current media coverage of global conflicts.

Turn on any news channel and you will see the same recurring imagery: endless loops of falling bombs, streaking rockets and exploding ships. This footage is often played repeatedly, much like a highlight reel. However, it is important to remember that this is not a video game. Beneath every explosion are human beings — families, neighborhoods and children in places like schools that are often dismissed as "collateral damage."
