This Saturday, April 23, from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m., the community will come together at Fountain Park for the annual Relay for Life of Fountain Hills.
While plenty of “teams” will take part in the event, organizers want to remind Fountain Hills residents that the Relay is open to the general public. Whether you wish to walk around the course a couple of times, take part in activities, buy food, etc. everyone is invited to stop by throughout the event.
Along with a bounce house and other activities for the kids, there will be an opening ceremony at noon, followed by a “first lap” led by local survivors. A luminaria ceremony will be hosted at 9 p.m. and, troughout the day, participants can take part in a 50/50 raffle, silent auction and plenty of other games and activities throughout the 12-hour event.

As for the relay teams, individuals, families, businesses, churches and groups of all kinds are invited to participate in Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event.
Relay for Life events are community events where teams and individuals camp out at a school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team has at least one participant on the track at all times and participates in fundraising in the months leading up to the event. Individuals and teams raise funds and awareness to help the American Cancer Society save lives.

Organizers are also on the lookout for committee members to help put together the 2017 Relay for Life event. Anyone interested in pitching in is asked to contact Jane Hahn, Community Manager, at jane.hahn@cancer.org.
