Relay for Life to fight cancer

Posted

The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Fountain Hills gives everyone in the community a chance to help the organization save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

The relay takes place Saturday, March 29, at Fountain Park behind Plaza Fountainside from noon until midnight.

Visit the website www.RelayForLife.org/fountainhillsaz for more information.

Former and current cancer patients, those who have lost a loved one to cancer, families, businesses, faith-based and civic organizations, and anyone wanting to make a difference in the fight against cancer will take part in this team event.

Relay for Life is a 12- hour event in which individuals and teams camp out at the park with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the pathway at all times throughout the evening.

Teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fundraisers at their camp sites during the relay.

The community is now welcome to bid on many silent auction items through an online website through 5 p.m. Friday, March 28.

The silent auction will then continue onsite at the relay on Saturday until 6:30 p.m., when the winners will be announced.

Visit www.32auctions.com/relayforlifefountainhills to start the bidding. Items to be auctioned off are local golf certificates for two or four players, hotel stays, 2 night stay at Poco Diablo Resort Sedona, spa treatments, fitness memberships and more.

A special Luminaria Ceremony during the relay will remember those lost to cancer and honor those who have survived. Luminarias will be lit at 9 p.m. Saturday to represent these individuals.
