Respect

Last Wednesday I attended the town meeting regarding the proposed trail northeast of Fountain Park. I intended to express my delight at having a new trail, since I hike and have lunch with friends twice weekly. We usually go to Scottsdale but would prefer to support our local establishments.

I was amazed at the comments of the residents of the subdivisions in the vicinity of the trail. I didn’t have a problem with their objection to the trail, but I was surprised at how rude and insulting many of the speakers were.

The personal attacks against Bill Craig were disgusting. I chose not to speak because it would have just increased the meeting’s incendiary atmosphere.

I have known Bill Craig for two years and it would be difficult to find a nicer person or a more dedicated volunteer. His intention in proposing the new trail was that it would be an asset to our community.

Oppose it if you want, but there was no reason to attack a person who has done nothing but help our community. I also believe the attack on Mark Mayer was unwarranted and showed ignorance. Mark has done a wonderful job as Director of Community Services and, like Bill, has worked hard to support our community.

I want Bill and Mark to know how much I, and most residents of Fountain Hills, appreciate what they do on our behalf. They have our respect and thanks for making this a better place to live.

For all of you who complained and insulted these two fine people, congratulations on your victory because it is obvious that the trail won’t be built. You may now sit on your patios secure in the knowledge that you won’t have your fellow Fountain Hills residents infringing on your privacy.
