OPINION — Respect? A letter writer says that the election results deserve respect. Of course, we respect the election results (we’re not election deniers), but the candidates have done nothing to earn respect yet.
This election was clearly a choice between respect, decency and civility or more of the same contemptuous partisan politics and cronyism. Disappointed that a majority of voters chose the latter in what is often described as a “friendly” town? You bet!
The letter refers to an old Facebook post, but oddly leaves out the multitude of unrelenting vile, hateful personal attacks on the candidates who were promoting civility. If you were not on social media, it was also clear just exactly who was civil and who was deplorable by looking at the proliferation of ugly signs that trashed up our town. Those candidates should not feel proud about the way they won, by letting the ROT PAC do their dirty work for them.
