Citing a sluggish recovery, the AZ Republic, in its endorsement of Doug Ducey, shows no insight into WHY Arizona is lagging, which is to say, by following all the policies Ducey intends to continue (including a new one… eliminating the income tax, 40 percent of the State budget).
The Republic opposed SB1062, and Ducey said he would consider a similar proposal to several sources.
In fact, the author of SB1062, Cathi Herrod, has been a part of his campaign from the start, though he unceremoniously scrubbed her from his endorsements list, along with Joe Arpaio, Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin, in order to appear moderate for the General. Will their Primary help be repaid later with loyalty he lacks so far?

The Republic supported Common Core and Medicaid restoration, both of which Ducey opposes.
Gov. Brewer said AZ shouldn’t appeal the Judge’s decision regarding education funding illegally swiped by the Legislature, but restore financing to the schools right away. Ducey wants to pay lawyers instead of teachers by challenging the courts.
None of this is reflected in their endorsement.
I certainly don’t regret my decision to stop taking “The Arizona Republican”. They make bad editorial decisions they don’t think thru. When your guiding principle is whether the candidate puts an R or a D after their name, you are no longer a journalistic enterprise… you are a wholly owned subsidiary. Remember when they endorsed John Huppenthal over Penny Kotterman for Supt. of Public Instruction? Good call, right?
Fred DuVal’s vision and experience closely aligns not only with what the paper appeared to support all these years, but with every leadership activity, AZ Town Hall, municipal, educational, business and civil discourse forum and report concluded would work for Arizona.
