River Fire causes road closures

The River Fire, seven miles north of Cave Creek, grew approximately 1,000 to 3,000 acres overnight Thursday on the New River Mesa, Tonto National Forest, and remains uncontained.

High heat and winds caused fire activity to increase significantly. In order to provide for firefighter and public safety, Forest Road 41 (Table Mountain Road) has been closed from the Tonto National Forest Boundary on the west to the junction with Forest Road 24 (Seven Springs).
