River fire ignites in Tonto Forest

The River Fire, about seven miles northwest of Cave Creek in the Tonto National Forest, was reported Tuesday evening after a monsoon storm moved through the area. The 400-acre fire, located on top of New River Mesa, was zero percent contained Wednesday. Smoke may be visible as afternoon winds increase.

As of this writing, the fire was moving away from communities and into areas where there were no threats to homes or other infrastructure.
