The River of Time Museum and Exploration Center recently announced the launch of its newest speaker series, “Mornings @ the Museum,” inviting the community to enjoy monthly programs featuring engaging guest presenters.
The series runs from January through April, and attendance is free. Guests are welcome to enjoy coffee and light refreshments before each presentation.
The inaugural program is at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, is entitled “Indigenous Baskets – The Art of the Desert People,” which will explore the cultural significance of basketry among Indigenous communities of the Southwest. According to a press release, attendees will learn about basket construction, materials, weaving traditions and how these art forms are woven into the history, culture and environment of desert Indigenous peoples.

The presentation will be led by Jerry Cowdrey, senior docent at the Heard Museum and an avid basket collector.
Cowdrey’s personal collection was recently showcased at the Desert Caballeros Museum in Wickenburg. He will share a selection of baskets representing Indigenous cultures throughout the region, offering guests a rare opportunity to see and learn about these pieces up close.
All are welcome to attend the debut program of “Mornings @ the Museum: Indigenous Baskets – The Art of the Desert People.”
Registration is encouraged but not required.
