Museum prepares for new season

In preparation for fall, the River of Time Museum & Exploration Center announced new hours and closures this summer.

The River of Time will be closed for the Memorial Day weekend beginning Saturday, May 24, and reopening Wednesday May 28, at 10 a.m.

Beginning in June, the museum will be open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (previously 4 p.m.)

The museum will be closed for the summer from July 1 through Sept. 30. It will reopen Wednesday Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. with fall hours returning to Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

New exhibition plan

According to the Executive Director Sherri Starkey, the museum has recently created a new exhibition plan, dedicating one section of the museum’s permanent gallery space to temporary exhibits focused on the Town of Fountain Hills history.

The first such exhibit is now open, Famous in Fountain Hills – the Musicians.

When each temporary exhibit ends, it will be used as a training opportunity for exhibit committee volunteers and also be used as a traveling exhibit, sharing Fountain Hills stories with the community at outreach events at schools, Town Hall, Community Center, Fountain Hills Library, the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation and more.

“We can spread the River of Time out amongst the community, sharing the subject knowledge, as well as raising awareness that our center exists, all without increasing the size of our building,” Starkey said in a statement.

Call for new volunteers

For those who are looking for a fun and rewarding activity, are interested in the history of the Lower Verde River Valley (human and natural) and want to learn more about Fountain Hills, consider becoming a River of Time volunteer.

From helping visitors navigate the museum to behind-the-scenes work and assisting with offsite tours, volunteers keep the waters flowing at the River of Time.
