Robert W. England passed away peacefully at home in Fountain Hills on August 16, 2023. He was born in Loma Linda, California on November 27, 1931, and spent his childhood and early adult life in and around Riverside, California. He served in the US Army during the early 1950s and was an accomplished athlete in the service and in college.
He was a loving father and wonderful role model to his two children, even uprooting his family and moving to Arizona to protect his asthmatic son from southern California air pollution. He was a devoted husband of 68 years to his wife, Barbara, a deeply loving relationship that is difficult to match. He befriended any neighbor who needed help building or repairing anything, a skillset learned by a lifetime in the hardware and building materials industry, and by constantly building or improving his own homes. He could create or fix almost anything.
Besides Riverside, he lived in Kingman, Needles (California), Casa Grande, Yuma, Coolidge, Pine, and ultimately Fountain Hills. He formed lasting relationships everywhere he went, and was liked and respected by friends, neighbors, and coworkers. Even as Parkinson’s Disease slowly eroded his life, he formed a new and meaningful bond with his caregiver, Diane Ruffcorn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Bernice England, his sisters, Mary Twogood and Margie Cantarini, and his daughter, Susi England. He is survived by his brother, John, his son, Robert Jr., daughter-in-law Nancy Hook, granddaughter Dawn, grandson-in-law Anthony, great granddaughters Meirah and Parker, several nieces and nephews, and his wife, Barbara England. As a final, touching gesture, he had asked to be cremated, so that his ashes may someday be placed in the same casket with Barbara upon her eventual passing, and buried together in the family plot alongside their beloved daughter.
A life very, very well lived. Rest in peace, Daddy.
