Fountain Hills High School recently played host to the Ninth Annual Central Arizona Vex VRC Robotics Tournament.

Two Fountain Hills teams, 1471C and 1471D, placed eighth and ninth respectively.

According to organizer and advisor Dr. Paul McElligott, the crowd for the event was about 400 strong.

“We are very pleased with the Fountain Hills team, which consists of school club members, as well as our engineering class.”

A total of 36 teams took part in the event, hailing from all over the state.

“We had skills, which is an individual attempt to maximize points, on Friday,” McElligott continued. “We then held the main tournament on Saturday, Feb. 18. We had the pleasure of several judges and referees, [including] Mayor Linda Kavanagh.”

Team 2114X from Cave Creek brought home this year’s Excellence Award. Tournament champions included Cave Creek’s 2114Z and 127C, as well as 8598 from the Maricopa home school group.

Team 127A, the Lemon Bots, won the design award, while the all-girls Team 6225, the Diva Droids, from Phoenix won the Judges Award.
