Recently the town has been considering a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Avenue of the Fountains and La Montana, right near the post office and the Town Hall. While the current intersection there is certainly a bit goofy, it does work. A couple of inexpensive stop signs seem to do it.
According to a town official, he can’t remember any serious accident ever occurring there, so why spend a whole bunch of money putting in a roundabout when there is no real problem and the town is strapped for cash on top of that?
Now fast forward to Daybreak. Recognizing their original traffic plan as totally unsafe, Daybreak is now proposing a multi-lane roundabout on Palisades, 600 feet north of the very busy, intense Shea/Palisades intersection. Understand that this would slow traffic down to less than 20 mph and, at times, stop it completely.

This roundabout will be almost identical to the one near Costco. That intersection seems to work, too, but is very hairy to say the least and it does cause frequent backups. Well now you can have one right in your own hometown, if the Planning Commission and the Town Council approve it.
Clearly Daybreak is getting desperate. They keep throwing out one bad idea after another. This roundabout may mitigate one of their many problems, but will create one for all of us, every day, forever. Also, think about the construction of this roundabout and the three months that Palisades will be all but shut down. Won't that be a joy?
You folks on Palomino, as well as those on Fountain Hills Blvd., get ready for that detour traffic coming your way.
