Rubber duck

I have an idea! There is a proposal to cut away part of Fountain Park and install a swimming lagoon. There is a lot of discussion in the community, both pro and con as to the desirability of such a lagoon.

Perhaps an alternate solution could resolve the matter. One possible solution would preclude lagoon problems such as tracking sand into retail establishments, lifeguards, liability issues, maintenance, coots polluting the swim area, etc. Canada recently celebrated its national anniversary by installing a six-story inflatable rubber duck in Toronto harbor (Google Toronto Duck for photos).

By bringing the duck to Fountain Hills, the high expenses attached to a lagoon would be avoided. It would certainly be a tourist attraction. Fountain Hills once had the world’s highest fountain. We could be, “Fountain Hills, home of the world’s largest rubber duck.” There could be a market for logo T-shirts, docents promoting the “beauty” of the duck swimming in the lake near the fountain; any number of benefits to the community.

A giant rubber duck in the town center isn’t any goofier than other recent ideas like gondolas in the lake, a 16-screen movie complex, or you name it. Let’s hear it for, “a rubber duck in the lake!”
