Ruth C. Sturgeon

Ruth Corinne Sturgeon of Fountain Hills passed away March 1, 2013.

She was born in Old Town, Maine Nov. 23, 1923 and was an Arizona resident for over 20 years.

She graduated Old Town High School, Old Town, Maine in 1940 and the University of Maine in 1944.

Corinne was an avid golfer, bridge player and did beautiful needlepoint. Corinne’s favorite needlepoints were her lighthouses.

During World War II she was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, able to identify aircraft by their sound.

Corinne was predeceased by her husband, Reggie Sturgeon; son, Richard “Dick” Smyth; and step-son, Jack Sturgeon.

She is survived by her sons, Timothy Smyth and wife Belinda in Millinocket, Maine, Terry Smyth and wife, Sharon of Medway, Maine; daughters, Margaret “Peggy” and her husband Denny Lapikas of Mesquite, Nev. and Elizabeth “Liz” Langley of Anchorage, Alaska. She is also survived by her step- daughters, Carol Sturgeon and Mary Bliss, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Corinne was admired for her strength and courage through her life and will be missed by all.

A memorial service will be held at the Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary on Saturday March 23, at 1 p.m.
