Saguaro project wrapping up
Posted
With only a couple of minor exceptions the Saguaro Boulevard improvement project is complete.
Development Services Director Paul Mood told the Town Council on Dec. 17 that Nesbitt Contracting has completed work on several punch list items.
The biggest item remaining is the installation of new street lighting at the intersection of Avenue of the Fountains and Saguaro.
Mood said contractors were on site ready to install those lights on Dec. 3. However, there was a problem with the fixtures fitting into the poles. Currently they are awaiting new poles so the installation can go forward.
Grates for storm drain structures adjacent to the Desert Canyon Golf Course have been installed and a drainage issue on the northbound side near the Baptist Church has been addressed.
There was also a drainage concern at the northwest corner of the Avenue of the Fountains intersection. Mood said the area was milled out, graded and repaved. He said staff would monitor the area as a warranty item.
The replacement of four Sanitary District fiber optic vaults in the street between Fountain Park and the sanitary treatment plan is on the list. They were unable to adjust the existing vaults to the new pavement creating “ride-ability” issues.
Temporary pavement markings are being replaced with the final thermoplastic striping material.
Crews have also been working on miscellaneous landscaping repairs.
Mayor Linda Kavanagh said she had received several comments from residents about rough, uneven transitions from side streets onto the new pavement along Saguaro.
Mood said the transitions proved difficult because of the condition of the adjoining old asphalt.
“(Nesbitt) did the best they could due to the existing conditions,” Mood said.
