Junior Sammantha Hughes is a force to be reckoned with at the plate and is the Fountain Hills Times Independent March Athlete of the Month.
Her slugging percentage (1.421) is the 10th best in the state, and third best in the conference through eight games. Hughes has hit five doubles, and three home runs so far this season.
“I’ve had five in club, but only this past summer,” Hughes said. “That’s when I started hitting [home runs], and then I came into school ball and now I’ve hit three. It’s kind of progressing a little.
