The high school sand volleyball team only played a single match last week, which evolved into a second win in a row for the Lady Falcons.

Squaring off against Rancho Solano Prep on the road, this March 28 match-up turned out to be a big 5-0 overall victory for the Fountain Hills squad.

Leading the charge for the Falcons was the pairing of Alyssa Barbagallo and Ana Jackson. Going 21-12, 21-8 against their opponents, this duo managed to maintain their undefeated record for the season.

According to head coach Peter McGloin, the local ladies continue to improve, which will hopefully result in several more big performances through the coming weeks.

“Hopefully the players are gaining confidence and comfort as we go into the second half of the season,” McGloin said.

“We’ll have to do better the second time around if we hope to make the playoffs.”

McGloin added that he feels there’s a good chance the Lady Falcons will continue to do well, as several early-season losses were extremely close and, after the past two matches, the team is starting to build some confidence.

“The players are capable of beating anyone on the schedule if they believe,” he added.

“We are starting to play more aggressively and intelligently and that needs to continue. Most importantly, there has been some progress on mental toughness and resilience, and that is key in this game especially, where there is nowhere to hide after making a mistake; just two players out there and no bench.”

The Falcons have a couple of opportunities to keep the positive momentum rolling this week. The team took on Chandler Prep on the road this past Monday, April 4, and will welcome the squad from North Pointe Prep to the Golden Eagle courts this afternoon, April 6, for a match beginning at 4 p.m.

Play will continue next Monday, April 11, with another 4 p.m. match-up, this time hosted by Scottsdale Prep.
