On Saturday, April 27, Fountain Hills High School held its annual prom for the junior and senior classes.
For many students prom night is a carefree event; a night to kickback with friends and celebrate the upcoming end of the school year. And for seniors, it’s a benchmark leading toward the inevitable end of high school.
For junior class president and prom coordinator, Sarah Brown, prom night was a more hectic experience than it was for most of her peers.

“It has been stressful but fun,” Brown said about coordinating the event. “It was a good learning experience because you have to talk to a lot of adults and do a lot of ‘adulting.’ Things like making phone calls and sending out emails.”
One of the biggest changes to the prom this year that Brown shepherded was the change in locations.
“(The prom) is at Venue8600,” Brown said. “We didn’t want to do it at a hotel this year because that’s how it has been. We wanted to change it up a little bit; it was really pretty and it wasn’t too far it just seemed like the right place.”
Overall, Brown said she was happy to go through the event planning process as it gave her a chance to experience what her future career may be like.
“I kind of want to go into event planning on a bigger scale,” Brown said. “So I think this was a good first step toward that.”
Thinking of some words of encouragement she could give to her successor, Brown struggled to settle on just one important piece of advice when she had learned so much during this process.
“There are so many things,” Brown said with a laugh. “Don’t stress, because I stressed and I didn’t need to stress for a lot of things. So ‘don’t stress’ is a big one.”
