Schmit reunion

On June 23, we hosted the Schmit family reunion. It was held in Arizona to celebrate the 8oth birthday of the eighth of 10 brothers, Larry Schmit. Family members came from Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Virginia and one from Middle East deployment.

We want to sing praises for Phil Rodakis of Phil’s Filling Station. Phil catered our banquet for over 120 members of our family and special friends. We can’t say enough about Phil’s ability to put out a great feast but also his way of putting us at ease. I will never forget his off-hand comment to me, “Don’t overthink it, Betty. That’s why you have me.” This was so true; everything was first rate.

Phil helped us design a super menu that adjusted to family dietary needs without breaking the bank. The food was wonderful and plenty of it. His staff went out of their way to make sure everything went smoothly. We encourage anyone who needs a caterer to make their first stop at Phil’s Filling Station. They won’t be disappointed.

Next, we want to commend the staff of Fountain Hills Community Center. Mike Fenzel and his staff took very good care of us. The room setup and equipment we needed was just as he promised. Last minute additions were handled efficiently. The suggestion from one of the staff helping during decorating was direction signs, of which she quickly created and posted for us in the lobby/hall. It was just one more thing to make the evening so special.

We also want to thank Officer Miller from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department for providing security for us.

As I am the organizer of the family, I am sure Larry will be frequently reminding me, “Don’t overthink it, Betty!”
