The board voted unanimously to approve the proposed calendar during the Nov. 8 meeting. The calendar had been discussed in October, following meetings earlier this year by the Calendar Committee.
During those earlier meetings, the Calendar Committee used parameters established by the Governing Board to make a selection between two potential calendars.

School board approves calendar

The Fountain Hills Unified School District Governing Board has approved an academic calendar for 2018-19.
The board voted unanimously to approve the proposed calendar during the Nov. 8 meeting. The calendar had been discussed in October, following meetings earlier this year by the Calendar Committee.
During those earlier meetings, the Calendar Committee used parameters established by the Governing Board to make a selection between two potential calendars.
The 2018-19 academic year will begin on Aug. 6, with the first quarter coming to a close on Oct. 4, the second quarter ending Dec. 21, the third quarter ending March 7 and the fourth quarter ending on the last day of school, May 23.
FHUSD will continue to utilize its early release schedule for Wednesdays throughout the newly approved calendar.
Fall break for the new calendar will be from Oct. 8-12, with the Thanksgiving holiday running from Nov. 21-23.
Winter break will run from Dec. 24 through Jan. 4, while spring break will run from March 11-15.
