School board meets tonight in Fountain Hills

Agenda set

The Fountain Hills Unified School District Governing Board has a busy agenda set for Wednesday evening, Aug. 7, boasting many housekeeping items to kick off the new school year and catch up following summer break. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and is open to the public.

Early on in the agenda, the board will hear updates on the unaudited financial report as well as Reveal match curriculum for kindergarten through fifth grade.

The action agenda is piled high with the usual back-to-school items including an amendment to the agreement with food vendor Sodexo, as well as potential approval of everything from payroll vouchers and donations to the district to updated extracurricular fees and the personnel action report.

Two potential purchase items will be considered during the meeting, with a board vote required since they would be over the $100,000 threshold. The first is for a potential contract position through ProCare Therapy. According to the board packet, it “has become increasingly difficult to hire…staff for special education positions.” The packet explains that while many were interviewed for the position this year, it was determined contracting the employee through ProCare Therapy would provide a more quality candidate.

The second proposed purchase topping $100,000 is for ACES, which is used “for outside placement for students with needs beyond what (FHUSD) can offer in (the) district,” according to the background information. “This particular purchase requisition is for the tuition and IEP needs/requirements of four students and currently includes transportation, which will be necessary if the district is unable to staff the daily route for these students.”

The agenda continues into information/discussion items, including proposed supplemental reading, a possible cross country overnight trip to California, etc.

Another potential purchase over $100,000 will be discussed, this one an agreement with Voyager Fleet Systems for fuel used in district vehicles.

All board meetings are held in the FHUSD Learning Center adjacent to the District Office, 16000 E. Palisades Blvd., and are recorded and livestreamed on the FHUSD YouTube channel.
