Scott: The PAC, ROT, is against almost everything

It's surely clear now that the organized PAC “ROT” is against almost everything, including Councilwoman Kalivianakis, whom it supported just more than a year ago to get elected.

The ROT leadership has now decided that any changes to the Target center, a more than half-empty shopping plaza, is bad for Fountain Hills. They bemoan vacant commercial shops and abhor taxes, but refuse to welcome residents that could help spur new businesses and support existing ones, and – now that they have abandoned Kalivianakis (who supports the redevelopment) – they must rely on Jerry Friedel as their loyal lap dog. Kalivianakis demonstrated the ability to think for herself. Friedel, not so much, lacking the leadership qualities of a mayor wannabe.

After all, former council member (and Joe Arpaio supporter) Art Tolis wants the project, former mayor Schlum wants it, too. So does the Chamber.

So just where should the ROT self-proclaimed saviors turn now? When will they ever be for something— anything? Maybe they could volunteer in town for a change, or serve on a commission, or participate in a community activity – gain some perspective.

It's time to stop listening to ROT’s noise. Their only real contribution is being virtually against everything. As far as the recent petition they are circulating, some collectors are telling potential signers misinformation. For example, problems with the Sanitary District, big-time traffic problems and supposed expansion of the project.

According to the lawyer for the shopping center, without the project, we are going to lose both Target and Petco.
