Scottsdale Reader’s Theatre presents ‘Bull in a China Shop’

Historical-fiction offers comedic take on equality

Scottsdale Reader’s Theatre is set to host its only play this season.
“Bull in a China Shop,” is a historical-fiction comedy inspired by the true story of Mary Woolley and her partner Jeannette Marks - two women who were pioneers in the women’s equality movement at the dawn of the 20th century.

The play follows the life and letters of Mary Woolley, president of the western Massachusetts women’s college, Mount Holyoke College from 1901 to 1937. The letters were those written to her English department head and love interest, Jeannette Marks.
