The girls soccer squad added another three wins to the season total last week, besting Coronado, Tempe Prep and Valley Christian in order to move to 12-0 in section play and earn its second section championship title in a row.

“It was an exciting way to end the regular season,” said head coach Alison Mabery.

“The girls played with lots of energy and intensity, despite the pouring rain.”

With the state tournament already kicking off, the Lady Falcons took on Safford this past Tuesday evening, Feb. 3, in front of the hometown crowd.

“Tuesday is the first step in achieving the goal we set at the beginning of the season, and that is to fight for a back-to-back championship squad,” Mabery said before the big match.

Results from the Safford match-up will be posted in next week’s edition of the times. As for the team’s chances at making another deep state run, Mabery sounded confident, especially considering the home turf advantage in the early goings.

“We are a fast, aggressive team,” she said.

“The more space we have to play on, the better team we become, finding the open players and getting the ball in the back of the net.”

As for last week’s games, the Falcons managed another big showing in all three matches, putting together a combined effort of 29-1 against all opponents.

On Monday, Jan. 26, the Lady Falcons played host to Coronado, leading 7-0 at the half and ending with a 10-0 final score.

Leah Carillo managed two goals and two assists in this outing, with Sierra Jarriel putting in a pair of goals and an assist and Danica Kerr scoring two goals, too.

Selina Reisig got a goal and an assist, as did Courtney Wise. Emmie Lawrence and Maddi Blaes wrapped up the scoring drive with a goal apiece.

The following evening saw the Lady Falcons once again playing host, this time to Tempe Prep. A Seniors’ Night celebration, the Falcons were up 4-0 at the half and ended the evening at 11-0.
