Senate debate

I had the opportunity to attend an Arizona Senate debate last week between John Kavanagh (R) and Paula Pennypacker (D).

What a farce!

Kavanagh distinctly answered each question, did not contradict himself and stated his position on the issues clearly. It is obvious that he is a conservative Republican.

With Pennypacker, I’m not sure where she stands. She was a Republican, but recently changed to a Democrat because of comments she received at a Scottsdale Tea Party meeting. She would not elaborate other than say it was due to social issues.

She stated that she is a fiscal conservative, but would not give definitive positions on state budgets and revenues (taxes). She stated that she supports “100 percent” the U.S. Senate Comprehensive Immigration Bill, but later stated that she is 100 percent against E-verify stating that it was a waste of time. (E-verify is a main component of the bill that checks the immigration status of all new hires).

She is a small business owner, and I suspect she is not interested in complying with state law. She also stated that the Democratic Party is a party of “small government.” When asked (four times) for an example, she could not provide any example of “small government” promoted by the Democratic Party.

I want a candidate to represent me who thinks like I do. With John Kavanagh, I know what I am getting. With Paula Pennypacker, I have no idea, and what I do know, I do not like. That is why I’m voting for John Kavanagh and hope you are too.
