Senior complex observes Longest Day

Fountain View Village closed in on its goal of $2,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association during The Longest Day activities on June 21.

Teri Larson, resident program director, said the senior community is just $100 short of meeting its goal.

“But we are optimistic,” said Larson, after $1,200 of that total was raised last Friday and previously at a car wash. “There’s still time to join our team.”

The Longest Day was observed with the sale of pizza slices donated by Papa Murphy’s, root beer floats, bags of popcorn, raffles, gift baskets, bingo, a bridge tournament and Family Feud competition.

Dr. Howard Linville won the 50/50 pot of $130.

Nearly 200 senior lifestyle communities were encouraged to create a YouTube video as part of a virtual “Dancing through the Decades” marathon for this year’s Longest Day activities. Fountain View Village was assigned the 1950s. The song, “Mr Postman” by the Marvelettes, was selected because the highlight of the day for many residents is the arrival of mail.

“We thought it was fitting, humorous and definitely shows off residents’ dancing abilities,” Larson said.
