Fountain Hills residents can expect considerable traffic congestion Sunday, Nov. 16, at the intersection of Shea Boulevard and State Route 87 (Beeline Highway).
Restrictions are being put in place to accommodate an Ironman event, which will be using the Beeline for the bicycle portion of the competition.
“Southbound SR 87 traffic will be transitioned to northbound SR 87 lanes just north of Shea,” ADOT spokesman Ryan Harding said. “Participants in the (Ironman) event will be using southbound SR 87 lanes and northbound (lanes of) SR 87 will be used to move traffic both north and south.
“There will be access to SR 87 from Shea and vice versa, but people should expect delays and avoid the area if possible. A DPS officer will also be onsite at the intersection to help control traffic.”
The race restrictions will be in place from about 8 a.m. to around 4:30 p.m.
