In October Shea Homes completed the purchase of the Tegavah, formerly Vista Verde, property at 174th Street and Rio Verde Drive. Shea plans to develop the site as one of its Trilogy communities.

The 850-acre property will be planned for approximately 1,200 home sites, according to Shea Homes sales division.

The site includes an 18-hole Ken Kavanaugh designed golf course, which has been in operation for several years.

The sale was first reported in the media on Oct. 21, indicating that Shea had paid $59.5 million for the property and the golf course.

Hal Looney, president of Shea Homes Arizona division, told The Arizona Republic that this is an opportunity for a large active lifestyle community in the Northeast Valley. He said they are considering other amenities to compliment the golf course.

Besides golf, hiking and biking are activities that should be part of the Trilogy emphasis for the location.

Sales staff noted that the site is located adjacent to the Tonto National Forest and Maricopa County’s McDowell Mountain Regional Park. This offers spectacular views and significant outdoor amenities including hiking and biking trails.

Originally planned as Vista Verde, a third sibling of the Verde golf communities, the property was sold to Canadian firm Brookfield Residential Properties and New York based JEN Partners in 2013.

They made plans for the Tegavah development until the sale to Shea. Home sales are expected to begin in fall 2015.
