Maricopa County Sheriff’s Capt. Larry Kratzer, commander for the MCSO District 7 based in Fountain Hills, reported to the Town Council on the issue of squatters taking over someone’s home.
Kratzer said the Arizona State Legislature tried addressing the issue with a bill cosponsored by Senator John Kavanagh, a Fountain Hills resident. That bill was vetoed by Governor Katie Hobbs.
However, Kratzer said MCSO has had discussions with the town prosecutor and determined deputies can use their authority to enforce trespassing laws.
