Sister Cities preparing for conference

The Arizona state Sister Cities conference will be hosted by the Fountain Hills Sister Cities organization at Community Center on Saturday, May 21.

All Fountain Hills Sister Cities members are encouraged to attend the Saturday program in support of their local organization.
After an 8 a.m. breakfast in the Community Center catered by Sofrita, Saturday’s meeting will be as follows: A video of President Eisenhower when he established Sister Cities International in hopes of encouraging world peace; 9:15 a.m. What Sister Cities International Can Offer; 10 a.m. a choice of breakout sessions – either Building Membership or Fundraising Ideas; 11 a.m. Getting Youth Involved in Sister Cities; noon lunch catered by Sofrita; 1 p.m. Roundtable for clubs to exchange experiences; 2 p.m. a PowerPoint program on Tempe’s new sister city of Agra, India, followed by closing remarks by our state president Milt Laflen. Adjournment will be at 3 p.m. with optional docent-led tours of the River of Time Museum or the Fountain Hills Public Art collection.
The registration fee for Saturday’s meeting is $30. Cost of the boat tour only is $30. Attendees wanting to take part in both events will be charged $50. Registration is due by May 8. Late registration will cost $10 extra.

Commisioners
Fountain Hills Sister Cities is on the lookout for four new Advisory Commissioners.
The role of the Commission is to act in an advisory capacity to the Town Council in developing and promoting municipal partnerships between the Town and other similar jurisdictions in other nations.
Applicants must be residents of Fountain Hills for a minimum of one year, and be available to attend monthly meetings. The Commissioners will be appointed by the Town Council and will serve on a volunteer basis for a three-year term beginning mid-June.
Application forms are available at the Town Hall reception desk upstairs at 16705 E. Avenue of the Fountains; or on the Town’s website at fh.az.gov/SCAC.
Applications may be sent or hand delivered to Town Hall, with the envelope marked, “Attention: Nancy Walter” and clearly marked “Sister Cities Advisory Commission Application.” Questions may be directed to Nancy Walter at 480-816-5107 or nwalter@fh.az.gov.
Applications are being accepted until 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 19.
