With the six Democratic Party candidates in Arizona’s Congressional District 1 having similar views on many issues and problems, their May 15 debate was a chance to talk about their unique qualifications.
Many of their responses during the debate, hosted by Arizona’s Clean Elections Commission, also took shots at longtime Rep. David Schweikert, the Republican who’s represented the northeastern part of the Valley in Congress since 2011.
After the debate, most of the candidates took a handful of media questions. Many questions had to do with candidate Kurt Kroemer’s claim that using the term “crisis” to describe southern border issues is overblown and Marlene Galán-Woods having fairly recently switched from the Republican to the Democratic Party.
