Three months after Hurricane Matthew devastated a school and orphanage in Haiti, three local men leave Jan. 23 to visit Pwoje Espwa (Project Hope).
Pastor Kenneth J. Brown, associate pastor at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church; Jack Reynolds, founder of Free the Kids the charity that supports the project, and Roger Bates of Christ’s Church of Fountain Hills will deliver $21,000, enough to feed the 350 youngsters through September.
Reynolds’ brother-in-law, Father Marc Boisvert, oversees the school and orphanage.

Noon Kiwanis Club, headed by Brown; Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church members and community donors raised the money.
“The feeding program has already begun,” said Brown. “We will be able to get pictures of the kids eating a nutritional daily meal for the first time in their lives.
“We are so thankful to so many for making it possible for us to go on this trip and see for ourselves. We’ll probably be pinching ourselves while we’re there after so long a delay.”
The delegation also will take girls’ dresses and boys’ shorts made by home schoolers, members of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Christ’s Church and Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church and Dress-a-Girl workshop participants.
The delegation postponed January travel plans to Les Cayes, Haiti, because of an outbreak of cholera.
