Snakes are a sure sign of spring in the desert

Beware of risks

Each year, the Fountain Hills Fire Department receives hundreds of calls for snake removals and, as the weather warms up, the snakes will become more prevalent.

And people beware, after a long winter they are hungry and irritable.

As warmer weather arrives, firefighters see an increase in the number of calls they receive, according to Fountain Hills Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Mike Winters. “The snakes are coming out of hibernation and are hungry,” Winters said. “Use caution when working in your yard, and when out hiking on our trails. Remember, never try to pick up a rattlesnake. Call the Fire Department at 480-945-6311 to have a snake removed from your property.”
