Fountain Hills residents who looked out the window about 7:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday evening saw something rarely seen in Fountain Hills before, and they woke up to something few if any can remember seeing in town before.
The historic winter storm that moved through Arizona blanketed the town with up to two inches of snow in many places. Close to a foot was on the ground in Adero Canyon and the McDowell Mountains.
At Rio Verde, two to three inches covered the golf courses, which has largely washed out the Rio Verde Invitational Tournament for college women.

In Fountain Hills artisans were struggling against the elements to get set up for the Great Fair downtown.
Kids are making the most of the snow creating snowmen and having snowball fights. Someone was recorded on video sliding down the roads in Adero Canyon on a snowboard.
The storm dumped more than an inch of rain for Fountain Hills as the El Nino continues this winter. With this storm there has been more than 2.5 inches for the month of February. That is on top of about an inch that fell in January.
